In 2013, Containers to the World became the ultimate event enlivening public space in the Czech Republic. Dozens of storage containers cropped up during May and June across a total of seven cities, the aim being to bring life back to the streets and attract attention to places that have been left untended. Streets, squares and parks are not supposed to serve as mere passageways. On the contrary, as the organisers see it, it is right here where the social, cultural and political life currently concealed behind the walls of houses should be happening. The containers should become small meeting centres linking lifeless locations and breathing life into them; they should expose the potential need of the given place for a facility such as a café, a cinema or a music club. Ideally, they might stay there permanently and serve as, for example, a unique coffee shop.
