OPEN UP! Conference: Evaluation of the Benefits and Impacts of the Pilsen 2015 Project

Pilsen 2015 and the Aspen Institute Prague invite you to the third edition of the OPEN UP! Conference that will take place on 9 and 10 June 2016 at the DEPO2015 Creative Zone in Pilsen. This year's theme will be the Evaluation of the Benefits and Impacts of the Pilsen – European Capital of Culture 2015 Project. 


Pilsen is saying farewell to the title of European Capital of Culture 2015

On 12th December, the eleven-month-long European Capital of Culture programme officially came to an end. In total, including the difficult preparatory phase, the project has lasted for seven years. Hundreds of participants, local and foreign partners and institutions alike, have taken part, and hundreds of thousands of tourists have been lured to the city. The prestigious European brand for which many cities compete for several years in advance has brought with it the expected positive effects.


Rock for People Europe will take over Pilsen in one month time

Music legends and progressive names of the European contemporary scene, combined with the inimitable atmosphere of an industrial environment, will be on offer at Rock for People Europe in one month time. Throw in the comfort of a city festival, and you’ve got the idea. 


Know-how Exchange for the Creative Industries: Pilsen and Bavaria

The public benefit organisation Pilsen 2015 and bayern design GmbH have joined forces for the realisation of a project that aims to connect Pilsner and Bavarian entrepreneurs from the creative industries, to support the exchange of knowledge and new jobs and to provide facilities for the preparation of new prototypes.


Pilsen is preparing an extensive season of Le Cirque Nouveau for the year 2015

Nine leading ensembles from France, Italy, Spain, Canada and Switzerland, more than sixty performances, eleven months from January till November, more than twenty thousand spectators… That, in a nutshell, is the season of Le Cirque Nouveau which will run in Pilsen in 2015 as part of the European Capital of Culture project.


Plzeň 2015 is announcing an open call for artists

The residency follows up a community-oriented programme called “Foster the City” (Pěstuj prostor) which focuses on small-scale improvements to public space. The artist will work at former public river bath (or in the vicinity), a location chosen by citizens of Pilsen as in need of an enhancement. 


New Techmania is attracting visitors not only to the 3D Planetarium

The newly renovated Techmania Science Center was opened on the 28th of March, offering an entertaining approach to science and technology, the first 3D Planetarium in the country, interactive exhibitions and laboratories, shows and workshops. 


European Neighbours’ Day

You have until the end of March to send in your nominations for the City of Pilsen Arts Award for the year 2013. You can submit nominations in the following fields: dance; fine art; performing arts; audiovisual art; literature; and design.


Artists Sought for the Train to Culture!

In the year 2015 we will be dispatching a special train between Pilsen and Regensburg. For forty weeks, it will be inviting people to visit cultural events in Pilsen by putting on interesting performances. Do you happen to be someone we are looking for to be on these special rides?

Presentation of the European Capital of Culture Programme in Prague

It is still more than a year until the official launch of the European Capital of Culture project on the 17th of January 2015, yet up to 90 per cent of the core programme has already been planned and confirmed. In total, it will involve more than 50 major cultural events and around 600 further events taking place in all parts of the city – in cultural institutions as well as public spaces.


On the 18th of November 2013, Jiří Suchánek will become the new director of the Pilsen 2015 public benefit organisation

On the 18th of November 2013, Jiří Suchánek will become the new director of the Pilsen 2015 public benefit organisation. He was selected in a closed selection procedure announced by the Board of Directors of the organisation in July after they had not chosen any of the candidates in the open call procedure. According to the Board of Directors, Jiří Suchánek has the necessary prerequisites to lead the organisation with the principal task of preparing and implementing the Pilsen – European Capital of Culture 2015 project.

European inspiration for Světovar: Culture Factory Week has presented a functioning way of utilising former factory buildings for culture. International experts with experience running cultural centres similar to the futureSvětovar Culture Factory, which is one of the flagships of the European Capital of Culture 2015, presented their experience in the areas of financing, operating, marketing and programme management.
