The Flagship Project Jiří Trnka and the World of Animation presents the art and craft of puppetry and film animation from their origins to the most modern forms.
Together with the Ministry of Culture and the National Film Archive, Pilsen 2015 will present the digitised form of Trnka’s Old Czech Legends as part of the festival Finále Plzeň in the year 2015. The colour puppet film based on the book “Ancient Bohemian Legends” by Alois Jirásek includes legends about the forefather Čech, Bivoj, The Maidens' War, Libuše and Přemysl, Horymír, Čestmír and The Lucan Wars. The restoration will allow the film to be shown in digitised cinemas, with a broad distribution both in the Czech Republic and abroad, in a form as close as possible to the original one seen by audiences during the first cinema release of the film.
Through the restoration of Trnka’s film, Pilsen 2015 will help to permanently reduce the debt the Czech Republic has in the preservation of its national film heritage.
You will be able to try animation and using the new technologies for yourself – whether by participating in workshops and festival editorials of the festival Animánie or in courses organised by the House of Digital Skills. The accompanying programme for both of the exhibitions will also be rich.
