Open up your Pilsen Paradise!

17 January 2015 is a date everyone knows by heart by now. It’s the day, after five years of preparations, which will see the full rollout of all the events of Pilsen – European Capital of Culture 2015. At the heart of the opening will be Pilsen itself. Be a part of the small Pilsen Paradise!

Get ready for an extensive season of Le Cirque Nouveau

Ten leading ensembles from France, Italy, Spain, or Switzerland, more than sixty performances, eleven months from January till November, more than twenty thousand spectators… That, in a nutshell, is the season of Le Cirque Nouveau which will run in Pilsen in 2015 as part of the European Capital of Culture project. These “dry” numbers do not, however, reveal the unrepeatable experiences for everyone who likes theatre combining supreme acrobatics, juggling and tight-rope walking with suspense, amazement, humour, clownship and poetics.

Discover Trnka’s The Garden

The son and grandson of Jiří Trnka, the most respected master of Czech animation, have made use of material from their family archive and have created a unique interactive exhibition based on book Jiří Trnka’s The Garden.

Gottfried Lindauer and his portraits of Maori in Pilsen

Nearly 50 portraits of New Zealand Maori return the spirit of their creator to his hometown in the most expensive and most demanding exhibition project in Pilsen’s history. For the first time in their history, the management board of the Haerewa, consisting of representatives of individual Maori tribes who are in charge of managing Maori art, have allowed this national treasure to leave the country of its origin. It will be introduced to visitors in the West Bohemian Gallery from 6 May to 20 September 2015. The vernissage of the exhibition will be inaugurated by a traditional Maori ritual accompanying the sunrise.
